A major resource that we provide at our facility is the opportunity to receive one-on-one care. There are many different treatment approaches and ways to overcome addiction, but the ability to receive individualized, one-on-one care can make a big difference for individuals in recovery. There are many benefits this form of care can provide to clients.
Key Benefits of One-On-One Care
There are many benefits of one-on-one care, and different ones can be more important to different clients. Being aware of these benefits can help clients understand the importance of finding a treatment center that can provide them, and it can help treatment centers ensure they are meeting their clients’ needs.
#1. Individualized Feedback
While many benefits can be gained from group therapy, having one-on-one care allows our clients to gain feedback specifically for them. As professionals work to develop a recovery plan suited to each client’s individual needs, their follow-ups and progression will better align with their personal goals. When a situation goes wrong, they can get feedback that is specific and effective for them. Through this personalized feedback, they can understand how to respond to a situation in a healthy way without straying away from who they are.
One of the best ways for people to learn and grow is through the feedback they receive. If they have the opportunity to receive individualized feedback and reminders of their successes, they will likely retain more information and have a better handle on the skills they are learning in the recovery process.
#2. Personalized Treatment
Each client has their own set of goals, expectations, diagnoses, and needs through the process of recovery as well as throughout their lifetime. Approaching recovery with a one-plan-fits-all philosophy is not effective because addiction is a complex issue that needs to be understood and addressed on a personalized level. One-on-one care is a great way to assess an individual’s needs appropriately and structure a treatment plan that is specific to each client.
Throughout the treatment process, the needs of each client may change. This shows the importance of continuing one-on-one care throughout treatment to ensure that necessary changes are being made to keep the client on their most effective path to success. Having a treatment philosophy of individualized care, we can help our clients assess their needs versus their wants and put their needs as a priority.
#3. A Safe Space
Some individuals struggle to find a supportive group of peers as they move through treatment. Finding a strong support group that positively impacts recovery is a common challenge among those recovering from addiction. One-on-one care ensures that our clients always have a safe space to fall back on if needed. Clients can use this safe space to positively impact their progress.
Through peer support and group therapies, we hope to help our clients establish a strong support system outside of our faculty. If that does not happen immediately or if they struggle to open up to their peers in recovery, they know they always have a safe space available through their individualized care team to help them learn and grow at their own pace.
#4. Greater Discovery
As our clients work one-on-one with our faculty, they increase their opportunities to learn. In a classroom setting, a teacher may provide a lecture on a subject to a class full of students. If a student does not grasp the concept of the lesson, they will often meet with the teacher outside of class for further explanation. This individualized explanation often helps students develop a better understanding of the material without feeling pressured by the pace of the class.
Learning and adapting skills in recovery can work the same way. If you are taught a skill or coping mechanism in a group setting, you may not fully understand the purpose of the skill or how to properly implement it into your life. With one-on-one care, we can provide a deeper explanation of the skills you are struggling to grasp. By focusing on each client’s educational needs, we can direct our teachings to their understanding.
Is One-On-One Care All That Matters?
The benefits involved with one-on-one care are numerous and ongoing. However, this is not the only effective form of care that can be received in treatment. There are many therapies, techniques, and recovery plans that can benefit people as they undertake their recovery journeys.
Even if one-on-one attention is your primary preference of care, you can still benefit from other types of treatment. If you prefer group settings, you can still benefit greatly from one-on-one care. Both types of care have a place in recovery, and they can complement each other.
Our facility works hard to provide our clients with a level of one-on-one care. While there are many different approaches to treatment and ways to provide care without individualized attention, we believe that there are many benefits involved when one-on-one care is part of a treatment plan. This individualized care allows clients to receive direct feedback on their treatment progress, set up a recovery plan that directly addresses their needs, ensure they have a safe space to be themselves, and learn information in a way that resonates with them. These benefits can be extremely helpful for a client’s long-term success. Receiving this form of care along with other types of treatment approaches can help someone receive the benefits of each.
